Some days I just want to quit. That’s right, just quit. Hide under the blankets and not be responsible for anything ever again. No baby, no bills, no husband, no cats, no friends, no relationships, no job, no nothing…*boom* just sit on my butt, arms folded across my chest and defy anyone to ask me to do anything! And for a moment it seems like a GREAT idea, not a good idea, but a GREAT idea…until I start to think about the little twinkle in my baby’s eyes when she catches sight of me or my wonderful husband leaving me a thermos of coffee in the morning before he heads off to work or the satisfaction of seeing one of my dance students go from being wrapped in a cocoon to breaking free into a full blown colorful butterfly in a matter of weeks. These are the little moments that keep me going during the times of overwhelm, depression or feelings of inadequacy. The times when I want my single, childless life back or when I want to be a child again with no cares in the world but what toy I’m going to play with today. And then, life seems better and the frustration starts to subside and I see that there really is a lot in my life to keep going forward for. It’s a good reminder that life doesn’t always have to be sunny. Sometimes we have to journey through the dark and that’s okay. As long as we keep going, eventually we’ll find what we need to illuminate the way. It’s all about balance.
So go ahead and sit on your butt and quit. Let it all go, relax and allow yourself to breath in the freedom of having nothing. Yippee, free at last!!! And when you’re finished, stand back up, brush yourself off and embrace the little things that keep you going each day. Mmmmm…not so bad after all.

Last night I had the incredible honor of attending a workshop with the incomparable Amel Tafsout. Going into this I had no idea what a life changing experience it would be. For the first time in my life I experienced trance dancing first hand. I wasn’t expecting this. I thought this was going to be a nice, sweet representation of healing dances like you would see in a dance performance or some such. No way, this was the real deal. Amel Tafsout expertly guided us from beginning to end, establishing a sacred, comfortable space that allowed us to let go, dance, and allow all of the emotions of the human experiences to flow through us. I’ve known for years that dancing healed my soul and I saw it in my students. Now I got to really experience it in an intense moment, not the little, subtle life changes that occur taking weekly classes, but in the kick you in the butt change right now way. And I liked it…a lot. I feel cleansed, regenerated, and very alive…if not a bit tired…today. I want to do it again…and again…and again…Thank you to all of the beautiful goddesses who were there to make this experience so special to me and to Amel Tafsout for sharing gifts of healing and Sherry for organizing this. Now, I’m off to bed to allow more healing of my body, mind, and spirit.

I’m currently taking a class with Suzanne Falter-Barns called Get Known Now. This class is all about, well, you guessed it, getting known for what you do. So here’s my dilemma…what do I do? I teach belly dancing, I teach and do henna, I do tarot readings for corporate events and privately for friends and family, I create classes to help women connect with their powerful goddess self. So what’s my name, my BRAND, as Suzanne calls it? I’ve called myself the Creative Goddess for years, but that’s been more my “title”, not my business name. I thought of Goddess Guru, but again, more of a title than a business name. And then to really make things a little more difficult, I’ve decided to focus more on the dancing as a way to help empower women. (Actually, this may help to make things easier.) This is my quandary, what is my business name that gets people to want to know more about what I do…and to want to be a part of what I’m doing. Here are the name ideas I have so far…
- Dancing Goddess
- Soaring Spirit
So, in Shakespeare’s time, a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet, but in the modern day, technological age, you need the RIGHT name in order to smell sweet!
I’d love to hear your comments or ideas on my business name.
